Can cats eat sweet potato?

Why

Cooked sweet potato isn't toxic but is mostly starch, offering little a cat needs. Raw is indigestible. It contains some oxalate.

If your cat has a condition

  • Kidney disease OK to give Lower than the 2,000 mg/1000kcal kidney-diet line. Phosphorus 319 mg/1000kcal
  • Diabetes Avoid Mostly sugar or starch — skip it for diabetic cats. Carbs 97% of calories
  • Heart disease (HCM) OK to give Low in salt. Sodium 37 mg/1000kcal
  • Urinary stones A little Contains oxalate — limit with a calcium oxalate stone history.
