Can cats eat popcorn?

Avoid

Butter, salt, sugar, and unpopped kernels that catch in teeth and throat.

Don't.

Why

A single plain air-popped piece isn't a big deal, but most popcorn has butter, salt or caramel, and hard unpopped kernels and hulls get stuck.

If your cat has a condition

  • Kidney disease Avoid Lower than the 2,000 mg/1000kcal kidney-diet line. Phosphorus 445 mg/1000kcal
  • Diabetes Avoid Mostly sugar or starch — skip it for diabetic cats. Carbs 49% of calories
  • Heart disease (HCM) Avoid Low in salt. Sodium 634 mg/1000kcal
  • Urinary stones Avoid No specific stone concern known — water intake matters more.
