Raw, cooked or powdered, onion destroys red blood cells — including soups and sauces made with it.
Don't. Check human foods (soups, stews, marinades, baby food) for onion first.
Sulfur compounds in onion oxidise red blood cells until they burst (Heinz body anemia). Cats are far more sensitive than dogs — around 5 g per kg can cause harm, so about 20 g (a few rings) for a 4 kg cat. Cooking or drying doesn't remove it, and powder is more concentrated.
Dangerous for every cat, with or without a health condition.

The toxic compounds leach into the liquid. If it was a small amount, watch gum colour and energy for a few days and get a blood test if unsure.
