Can cats eat olive & cooking oil?

A little

Less than half a teaspoon — don't use it daily as a constipation fix.

How much

Up to per day 2g about 0.4 pieces · 1 teaspoon ≈ 4.5 g

4 kg adult cat, treats ≤10% of ~200 kcal/day

PreparationA tiny amount mixed in.

Why

Oil isn't toxic but is very calorie-dense and can cause diarrhea or pancreatitis. If constipation keeps coming back, look for the cause (dehydration, kidney disease, megacolon) rather than adding oil.

If your cat has a condition

  • Kidney disease OK to give Lower than the 2,000 mg/1000kcal kidney-diet line. Phosphorus 0 mg/1000kcal
  • Diabetes OK to give Low in carbohydrate. Carbs 0% of calories
  • Heart disease (HCM) OK to give Low in salt. Sodium 8 mg/1000kcal
  • Urinary stones OK to give No specific stone concern known — water intake matters more.
