Can cats eat lemon, lime & grapefruit?

Avoid

Strong acid and oils irritate the gut — watch lemon-scented cleaners and diffusers too.

Don't.

Why

The most concentrated citrus oils and acid — vomiting, diarrhea, drooling. Grapefruit also contains drug-interacting compounds. Lemon essential oil and diffusers are a bigger hazard (see essential oils).

If your cat has a condition

  • Diabetes Avoid Mostly sugar or starch — skip it for diabetic cats. Carbs 100% of calories
  • Heart disease (HCM) Avoid Low in salt. Sodium 56 mg/1000kcal
  • Urinary stones Avoid No specific stone concern known — water intake matters more.
