Can cats eat essential oils (tea tree etc.)?

Dangerous

Cats can't break down many oil compounds — a few drops on the skin can poison them.

If your cat ate it

Signs
Drooling, tremors, wobbliness, lethargy, vomiting, laboured breathing
When
Within hours (2–8 h after skin exposure)
What to do now
Wash the coat with dish soap and go to a vet now; bring the bottle.

Don't.

Why

Tea tree, eucalyptus, peppermint, citrus and cinnamon oils contain phenols and terpenes a cat's liver can't process. Applied to or groomed off the coat they can cause tremors, wobbliness and liver damage; diffuser reservoirs are a particular risk.

If your cat has a condition

Dangerous for every cat, with or without a health condition.
