Can cats eat coffee & caffeine?

Dangerous

The caffeine in one espresso shot is a toxic dose for a 4 kg cat.

If your cat ate it

Signs
Restlessness, racing heart, tremors, vomiting, high temperature, seizures
When
Within 1–2 hours
What to do now
Go to a vet now and say what and how much (beans, grounds, drink).

Don't — and don't leave a cup unattended.

Why

Caffeine is a methylxanthine like chocolate and overstimulates the heart and nerves. Signs can begin around 20 mg/kg, and one espresso shot (30 mL) holds about 60–70 mg. Beans, grounds, tea bags, energy drinks and caffeine pills are even more concentrated.

If your cat has a condition

Dangerous for every cat, with or without a health condition.
