Can cats eat cinnamon?

Avoid

Powder irritates the mouth and airways; cinnamon oil risks liver toxicity.

Don't.

Why

Inhaled cinnamon powder causes coughing; eaten in quantity it can cause vomiting or low blood sugar. Cinnamon oil contains phenolic compounds cats can't break down (see essential oils).

If your cat has a condition

  • Kidney disease Avoid Lower than the 2,000 mg/1000kcal kidney-diet line. Phosphorus 181 mg/1000kcal
  • Diabetes Avoid Mostly sugar or starch — skip it for diabetic cats. Carbs 93% of calories
  • Heart disease (HCM) Avoid Low in salt. Sodium 52 mg/1000kcal
  • Urinary stones Avoid No specific stone concern known — water intake matters more.
