Can cats eat chili pepper?

Avoid

Capsaicin burns the mouth and gut, causing drooling and diarrhea.

Don't.

Why

Capsaicin isn't a poison but strongly irritates a cat's mouth and gut, and spicy dishes usually add garlic, onion and salt.

If your cat has a condition

  • Kidney disease Avoid Lower than the 2,000 mg/1000kcal kidney-diet line. Phosphorus 1,310 mg/1000kcal
  • Diabetes Avoid Mostly sugar or starch — skip it for diabetic cats. Carbs 89% of calories
  • Heart disease (HCM) Avoid Low in salt. Sodium 34 mg/1000kcal
  • Urinary stones Avoid No specific stone concern known — water intake matters more.
