Can cats eat cherry?

Avoid

Pits, stems and leaves contain cyanide compounds — not worth the effort for the flesh.

Don't.

Why

Cherry pits, stems and leaves contain cyanogenic glycosides; chewing enough can cause breathing difficulty and bright red gums. Small pits are easy to swallow whole.

If your cat has a condition

  • Kidney disease Avoid Lower than the 2,000 mg/1000kcal kidney-diet line. Phosphorus 567 mg/1000kcal
  • Diabetes Avoid Mostly sugar or starch — skip it for diabetic cats. Carbs 100% of calories
  • Heart disease (HCM) Avoid Low in salt. Sodium 15 mg/1000kcal
  • Urinary stones Avoid No specific stone concern known — water intake matters more.
