Can cats eat acetaminophen (tylenol)?

Dangerous

A single tablet can kill a cat — never give it.

If your cat ate it

Signs
Brown or blue gums, swollen face and paws, laboured breathing, drooling
When
Within 1–4 hours
What to do now
Go to a vet now — there is an antidote (N-acetylcysteine). Bring the packaging.

Don't.

Why

Cats lack the liver pathway (glucuronidation) to clear acetaminophen, so tiny doses stop red cells carrying oxygen (methemoglobinemia) and damage the liver. It's in many cold and flu remedies too.

If your cat has a condition

Dangerous for every cat, with or without a health condition.
