Daily water calculator
Daily water goal, and how much wet food covers
How is it calculated?
Water goal = daily calories × 1.0 ml × condition factor. With only a weight, adult calories are worked out first with the calorie calculator’s formula. Wet food grams × moisture % is the water from food — the same way the CatLab app sets its water target.
Questions
How much water does a cat need a day?
About 1 ml per kcal a day. A 4 kg neutered cat (about 190 kcal) needs around 190 ml — including water in food, so cats on wet food drink much less.
More for kidney disease?
Kidneys can’t concentrate urine, so more water is lost. The CatLab app raises the goal 1.1–1.4× for kidney stages 1–4 (1.3× for diabetes, 1.2× for hyperthyroidism).
Estimates for healthy-weight cats based on NRC 2006 and IRIS guidance. A cat with a medical condition may need different numbers.
